  1. Preheat & Prep:
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, letting it come up over the sides for easy lifting later.
  2. Brown the Butter:
Melt 1 cup of salted butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir frequently until the butter foams, then subsides, turning a rich caramel color. You’ll know it’s ready when the aroma of toasted nuts fills the air. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients:
Whisk together 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg in a bowl. Set this aside for later.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients:
Pour the cooled brown butter into a stand mixer bowl. Add 2 eggs and mix until well combined, creating a creamy, golden mixture.
  3. Blend in Sugar:
Add 1 1/2 cups of brown sugar to the mixture, blending until it’s fully integrated, creating a smooth, sugary concoction.
  4. Incorporate Dry Mix:
Gradually add the dry ingredients to your wet mixture, mixing well. Make sure to scrape down the sides for a thorough blend, resulting in a soft, spiced dough.
  1. Fold in Oats & Apples:
With a spatula, gently fold in 1/2 cup of old-fashioned oats and 2 cups of diced apples. This combination gives texture and bursts of apple flavor throughout the batter.

Incredible Twists to Try

Let’s talk about how you can make these luscious Brown Butter Apple Blondies even more delightful with a few simple tweaks.

  • Salted Sweetness: If you prefer unsalted butter, sprinkle a pinch of extra salt to heighten the flavors. This subtle adjustment brings out the nutty richness beautifully.
  • Molasses Magic: Opt for dark brown sugar to infuse your blondies with a stronger molasses flavor. It adds a deeper sweetness that’s simply amazing.
  • Nutmeg Nuance: Freshly grated nutmeg elevates the warm spice notes in these blondies. While pre-ground works just fine, using fresh can add an extra aromatic burst.
  • Tart Apple Touch: Swap in a tarter apple like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for a tangy twist. These varieties hold up well during baking, offering the perfect balance to the sweetness.

With these little variations, you’re all set to create your own perfect version of this cozy treat. Whether you follow the classic recipe to a tee or add your own spin, these blondies promise to be a hit!

Keeping the Magic Alive

Once your kitchen has filled with that amazing autumn aroma and your Brown Butter Apple Blondies have been devoured (or almost), it’s time to think about storing the extras—if there are any left, that is! Simply let the blondies cool completely before sealing them in an airtight container. This little trick helps maintain their chewy texture. You can keep them at room temperature for up to three days or tuck them into the fridge for about a week. Want to save them for later? They freeze beautifully for up to three months; just wrap them tightly in parchment paper and a freezer-safe bag.

When it’s time to enjoy these beauties again, you’ll want to warm them gently for that fresh-from-the-oven feel. My favorite method is to zap them in the microwave for about 10 seconds. This way, each piece stays nice and soft, just as they were intended to be. If you’re warming a larger batch, a quick stint in a low oven at 300°F for about 5 minutes will do the trick, keeping them moist and incredible. Happy reheating, my friends!

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350-F and prepare a 9 x 13 baking dish by lining it with parchment paper so that the parchment paper comes up over the sides of the dish.
  2. Make the brown butter. Melt the butter in a saucepan on the stove over medium-low heat and just let it cook. Stir frequently. 5. Add the brown sugar to the egg-butter mixture and mix until combined.
  6. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, and mix well, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  7. Remove the bowl from the mixer, and with a wooden spoon or spatula, fold in the oatmeal and diced apples.
  8. Transfer the batter to the prepared pan and smooth it out a bit. Pop it in the oven for about 30-35 minutes.
  9. Cool the Brown Butter Apple Blondies and make the glaze.
  10. Melt the butter and brown sugar in a small pan on the stove over medium heat. Simmer it until the brown sugar is just dissolved. Remove the pan from the stove and let the butter-sugar mixture cool a bit.
  11. Add the maple syrup, vanilla, and powdered sugar to the melted butter mixture until smooth and thick enough to drizzle. Thin it with a teaspoon of milk if it is too thick.
  12. Drizzle the brown sugar glaze over the top of the Brown Butter Apple Blondies, then cut and serve!

Notes

The secret to these blondies lies in the brown butter, which not only adds a deep, nutty flavor but also enhances the overall richness of the dessert. The process of browning the butter caramelizes the milk solids, creating a complex flavor profile that elevates the sweetness of the brown sugar and the tartness of the apples.
